Google Maps Lets You Skip the Trip and Tour Wine Country From Home
Jul 8, 2015
(Eater) - Oenophiles and wannabe snobs have been flocking to California's Wine Country for years, throwing down big money to get a taste of America's iconic grape-based beverages. But what about those who want to tour the vineyards, yet don't have a lot of spare change? Google Maps is here to help.
The service has added photos of more than 80 California vineyards and breweries — this is for you, too, beer geeks — which allow for virtual 360-degree tours. Images include interior and exteriors spaces, so users can get an in-depth preview of venue before making a visit — or just pretend they're on location with a $10 bottle of pinot on their couch. Among the wineries on board are Schramsburg, Castello di Amorosa, Artesa, Quintessa, and Ferrari Carano. Breweries include Strike Brewing Co. & Warehouse Taproom, Rincon Brewery, Telegraph Brewing Co., Cervezeria de MateVeza, and Triple Voodoo Brewery and Taproom.
With this latest Maps development, Google continues to travel further and further into the world of food and beverage. Lately the company has been working on technology that can count calories in food porn photos, perhaps in an effort to counteract the effects of new food-delivery integration in its search engine.
