France: Michel Chapoutier buys Beaujolais negociant

Apr 14, 2015

(Decanter) - Michel Chapoutier, owner of numerous wine estates in the northern and southern Rhone, has acquired Beaujolais negociant La Maison Trenel.

Michel Chapoutier confirmed to Decanter.com that he has bought Trenel through his holding company MMC and not his main wine company M. Chapoutier SA, meaning that the Trénel wines will continue trading under their original names, without any mention of Chapoutier on the labels.

Financial details were not disclosed. Chapoutier is president of the Rhone region's wine trade body, Inter-Rhone, and also has estates in Australia, Portugal and Alsace.

‘Beaujolais is a region in renaissance, with a new generation of dynamic winemakers, and we are very confident of being able to further develop this high quality négociant company,’ Chapoutier said.
