Winery launches ‘wine and sex’ nights
Feb 23, 2015
(TDB) - Bodegas Monje in Tenerife has launched a series of “Wine & Sex” nights involving erotic games at its winery in the Canary Islands.
The bodega describes the tasting events as offering consumers the chance to enjoy wine “from an erotic and gastronomic” point of view “without the usual protocols of tasting notes, terroirs, crus and polyphenols”.
During the evening, participants are invited to taste wine either privately or as part of a group in “an original, fun way” via “music and sensual language balanced with theatre scenes and innovative erotic products”.
In addition to wine, foods known for their aphrodisiacal properties are served during the tasting, with the last event being held at the bodega on 24 January.
“Wine and sex have always gone together since man discovered this wonderful beverage,” reads the introduction on the Wine & Sex website.
“Drinking wine involves an erotic element and Wine & Sex extols this particular alliance in an encounter reigned over by the pleasures of wine,” it adds.
The next Wine & Sex event will take place at Bodegas Monje on 25 April and will involve “erotic games”, music and performance art.
According to a 2009 study carried out in Florence, drinking one to two glasses of red wine a day increases the female libido.
The study investigated 789 women aged between 18 and 50. Those who drank one to two glasses of wine a day were found to be more sexually active than those who abstained.
Drinking red wine not only helps to release inhibitions, but also has a direct effect on sexual activity.
Alcohol stimulates a part of the brain called the hypothalamus, which regulates basic human functions like body temperature, hunger, hormone levels and libido.
According to Wine Folly, women are typically turned on by musky, earthy, woody aromas, while men go wild for lavender, orange, liquorice and vanilla aromas.
