Living: Red Robin shakes things up with red wine milkshake
Nov 17, 2014
(NYPost) - Why not combine two indulgences into one mega-indulgence?
If those two indulgences are red wine and milkshakes, there would seem to be plenty of logic against it — but that didn’t stop Red Robin from releasing the Divalicious Red Wine Shake earlier this month.
The beverage is a daring dairy blend of Little Black Dress Divalicious red wine (a blend of no less than half a dozen red varietals that retails for about $9 a bottle), vodka, raspberry purée and vanilla soft serve, topped with whipped cream and a drizzle of raspberry syrup.
The Post got a sample of the shake to try, and it proved controversial and divisive.
I often find booze and dairy an unpleasant mix, and this didn’t change my feelings.
It’s a roller coaster in the mouth: sweet at the start, then a surprising blast of hard alcohol, followed by an assault of supersweetness and ending on something vaguely resembling red wine.
Others were far more positive. “I love it,” enthused a co-worker who also loves Duane Reade sushi. “If one of those appletinis isn’t girly enough for you, then this will hit the spot.” Indeed.
