Netscape Founder Clark to Sell $6 Million Wine Collection

Aug 13, 2014

(Bloomberg) - Sotheby’s (BID) plans to auction vintage wines belonging to Netscape Communications Corp. founder James H. Clark, which it estimates will fetch more than HK$46.8 million ($6 million).

The sales will include 67 magnums of Henri Jayer burgundy wines from 1988, 1989 and 1990 vintages as well as Italian and Rhone wines, Sotheby’s said in an e-mailed statement.

The sales are scheduled for Hong Kong on Oct. 4 and New York on Nov. 15, Sotheby’s said.

Clark is the latest prominent wine collector to tap the Hong Kong wine auction market, the world’s largest. Former Manchester United coach Alex Ferguson, el Bulli chef Ferran Adria and former Hong Kong Chief Secretary Henry Tang have raised millions auctioning parts of their collections in recent years there.
