IRANIAN MPS ANGERED OVER WORLD CUP BEER
Jun 16, 2014
(TDB) - Iranian MPs have hit out at a German brewer after it used the Iranian flag on limited edition bottles of its beer to commemorate World Cup participants.
Are reported by Al Jazeera, Gaffel Kolsch included the Islamic Republic’s flag, which includes the words “God is great”, on the labels and caps on a number of special edition bottles of its beer along with the 31 other nations taking part in the World Cup.
Iranian MP Hamid Rasaie told news agency Fars of his anger at FIFA for “allowing” the Iranian flag to be “disrespected.”
Iran’s sports minister is now reviewing “evidence” on the marketing campaign in order to decide what action to take.
Alcohol is forbidden under Islamic law, though non-Muslims are allowed to produce and import it for their own consumption.
Rasaie also spoke of his disapproval that the Iranian flag has been used on tight World Cup-themed leggings “worn by half-naked women”.
Keen to travel to Brazil in order to “monitor” the Iranian team, Rasaie hit the headlines earlier this month when French newspaper Le Monde reported that his request for the state to cover his airfare was rebuffed.
Iran kicks off its World Cup bid against Nigeria todayffering the smell of the terroir where its vines are grown in Vouvray.
