(AM1150) - Canada and the European Union signed a trade deal this month and for the wine industry it means there will be no more tariffs on European wine and spirits entering Canada.

But according to Miles Prodan, Executive Director of the BC Wine Institute it won't mean significant changes for the local market.

"We've been through this with the free trade NAFTA agreement, now that did have impact on the BC wine industry almost 25 years ago and I can appreciate the impact it is going to have on other producers."

Prodan doesn't expect to see an increase or decrease in the price of a bottle of wine as a result of more wines being allowed into the country. Prodan adds that he doesn't expect the Canadian market to be flooded with foreign wine.

"If anything there's opportunity as some tariffs are coming down for Canadian Wines into the EU. But frankly that's not a huge market for BC specifically."

He adds that the trade deal with the E-U won't really affect the local wine industry
