UK: Man dials ‘911’ over wine emergency after bar serves him glass with bits of cork in it
Sep 24, 2013
(NYDailyNews) - British police have slammed a bar drinker who called emergency services to complain his wine was corked.
The drunk dialed 999 — the United Kingdom equivalent of 911 — to demand officers intervene after staff at the pub in Manchester's Northern Quarter refused to give him a refund.
But cops were less than impressed with his time-wasting gripe — and threatened to fine him if he made another inappropriate call.
"He said he was having a dispute with staff because they would not give him a refund because his wine had bits of cork in it," Inspector Phil Spurgeon told the Mirror.
Spurgeon revealed that officers were not sent to the "incident," and warned others not to call the emergency services unless it is vital.
"While a call handler is dealing with a call like it, someone else could be facing a real emergency,"
