Chobani recalls Greek yogurt that tastes like wine
Sep 9, 2013
Preservative-free food is awesome — unless it makes you sick. According to the Associated Press, a batch of Chobani’s Greek yogurt has caused protein enthusiasts to fall ill, complain of “unnervingly fizzy” yogurt, and report that it tastes like wine. (Which sounds pretty great to us, but we get it if you’re more of a beer fan.)
Chobani, Persian for “please buy this,” straddles the line between gross Yoplait liquefied dessert yogurt and shmancy expensive organic stuff. It’s not organic, but it’s made without artificial sweeteners, preservatives, or milk from cows treated with rBST. Writes the AP:
Chobani says it’s recalling some of its Greek yogurt cups that were affected by mold, a move prompted by reports of illnesses by some customers.
The recall comes about a week after the company first started asking retailers to pull the products from shelves, saying some cups were “swelling and bloating.” Chobani had previously said it wasn’t issuing a formal recall.
But the Food and Drug Administration said Wednesday that it was in talks with the company about the matter.
