US: Seattle's Precept Wine buys Oregon Pinot vineyard
May 16, 2013
(BizJournals) - In a bid to move into the market for premium Pinot Noir wines, Precept Wine has acquired the Yamhela vineyard in Oregon’s Tualatin Valley, southwest of Portland, the company said.
Seattle-based Precept bought Yamhela for an undisclosed sum from Meriwether Farms LLC, an Oregon vineyard fund with backing from the California Public Employees’ Retirement System, or CalPERS.
Yamhela’s property totals 374 acres, with 30 acres already planted as vineyards. Precept says it plans to increase Yamhela’s grape plantings to 120 acres over the course of five years.
The property will be farmed by Winemakers LLC, a company affiliated with Precept’s owners. Under the previous owner, Yamhela was farmed by a California company.
