US: ND wine industry getting research money from state

May 4, 2013

(AP) — North Dakota's grape and wine industry is toasting victories in the state Legislature.

One bill that passed provides $80,000 over the next two years for research, education and promotion of grapes, fruit and wine. A new Grape and Wine Advisory Committee will oversee the effort.

Agweek reports (http://bit.ly/16ebJ2H ) that the committee will work with state Agriculture Commissioner Doug Goehring on issuing grants from the $80,000.

Lawmakers also passed a bill this session giving North Dakota wineries the right to sell wine directly to a restaurant, bar or bottle shop without having to go through a wholesaler.
