US: Ice wine harvet begins in the Finger Lakes

Jan 3, 2013

(DemocratandChronicle) - In the early hours of Tuesday, people were saluting the new year with Finger Lakes bubbly. But 24 hours later, vineyard workers started harvesting grapes for another type of wine: ice wine. One of the region’s specialties, ice wine is a dessert wine created from the grapes made super-sweet by allowing them to freeze on the vine. The vines are netted to prevent animals from eating them as they shrink and concentrate their juices.
