Scientist delighted lovers of red wine and fatty diet with 'French Paradox'
Dec 29, 2012
(VancouverSun) - Research scientist Serge Renaud, who became a hero of the French wine industry when he announced on U.S. television that drinking red wine is good for the heart, has died at 84.
Renaud's name was closely associated with the "French Paradox" - the observation that French people live longer than Americans and have fewer heart attacks despite the fact they smoke more, take less exercise and enjoy delights such as Brillat-Savarin - so fatty it is known as "triple-cream" cheese.
