UK: Alcohol concern: minimum unit price will save lives

Nov 28, 2012

(Telegraph) - Emily Robinson from Alcohol Concern has welcomed government plans to tackle binge-drinking in Britain by introducing a minimum alcohol price of 45p per unit. The Coalition will today announce a consultation on setting a minimum price of 45p for a unit of alcohol sold in England and Wales. The move comes after a group of leading medical bodies called on the Government to set a minimum alcohol price of 50p per unit to tackle ''head on'' the problems caused by cheap drink and to protect the next generation.
