Amazon Tries Selling Wine Online For Third Time

Nov 17, 2012

(Forbes) - Wine.com has been in the online wine sales industry since 1998. In fact, it has more or less been the industry, as Wine.com’s hard-fought success over the last decade and a half has put it in a category of its own — a status Amazon now hopes to change with its launch of Amazon Wine earlier this month. “[Wine.com] is on pace to reach $80 million in revenue this year, up from $67 million last year,” wrote Greg Bensinger for the Wall Street Journal. “But it took more than 10 years to turn cash positive, and it took a detour through bankruptcy. At one point, Wine.com was down to a week’s worth of cash and had to lay off a third of its workforce.”
