Northern Kentucky's wine industry getting better with time

(Cincinnati) - When Dennis Walter decided to turn his family farm into a vineyard a decade ago, it was a lonely undertaking. The Kentucky winemaking industry was virtually nonexistent: there were just a handful of other wineries and grape growers in the state and not much of a support network. When disease struck his fledgling vines, Walter had to send photos to experts in Virginia to get a diagnosis. “Had I known then what I know now, I would have been scared,” Walter, 65, said with a laugh.
