Biowine receives EU approval: Label certification boosts the sales of organic drink
Sep 18, 2012
(PraguePost) - The intricacies of the European Union could drive anyone to drink, but until recently, organic winemakers had more cause than most to seek solace in the bottle. That's because until this year - according to the EU, at least - their product didn't exist.
Officials were not happy about a lack of certification for the "organic" wine-making process or any universal standards or definitions, so the best the winemakers could do was a label saying the wine was "produced from organic grapes" or national or private "bio" labels.
This state of affairs was rectified earlier this year, meaning wines made from grapes harvested in 2012 will be able to display their "organic" labels.
