Does wine have to be certified organic to be sustainable?
Sep 11, 2012
(MNN) - Even though many wine makers follow sustainable practices, they don’t achieve USDA organic certification or indicate their eco-friendliness at all on the label. If they aren’t labeled organic, what should you look for when you’re searching for eco-friendly wines? Right before Labor Day, I recommended sustainably produced Pinot Grigio, Mezzacarona, to you as a great option as a reasonably priced crowd pleaser for your weekend celebrations. Mezzacarona is not an organic wine, but the Italian vineyard that produces it practices many sustainable wine growing and production techniques.
