Spain predicted smaller harvest, higher grape prices
Aug 24, 2012
(Decanter) - As harvest gets underway in Spain, observers are predicting a reduction in quantity, while prices for bulk wine are already substantially higher than last year. The harvest began in mid-August with white varieties in the hotter south, including La Mancha and AndalucĂa.
In the north, February frosts delayed budding, and drought conditions (compounded by a very dry winter) throughout much of Spain have seen a reduction in quantity predicted to be down 15-20% compared with 2011.
