BERGER: Judging wine is an acquired skill
Apr 10, 2012
(PressDemocrat) - A newspaper story recently said a researcher has concluded the tasting notes of wine experts were of no help to average wine buyers.
The article said the researcher drew this conclusion primarily because wine experts can taste a lot more things in wine than average buyers. And thus tasting notes are basically meaningless to average buyers.
This is such a complex subject that it's best that I not disparage the so-called scientific study that led to the conclusion. But it irked me that someone who knows nothing of the process of wine-tasting would go on the record.
