(TheIthacaJournal) - The wine-in-supermarkets lobby, which has pushed millions of dollars into the effort to rewrite laws prohibiting the sale of wine in food stores, has slowed to a crawl this year, subdued by Gov. Andrew Cuomo's opposition to the change. In recent years, upstate supermarket chains, led by Wegmans Food Markets Inc., have joined with convenience stores, many Finger Lakes wineries and other business interests to ramp up the long-running effort to allow grocers and other food purveyors to offer wine. Former Gov. David Paterson supported the change, but the bill failed each time it was submitted to the Legislature.
