US: State budget contains golden opportunity for Finger Lakes wine industry

Apr 1, 2012

(Syracuse) - The recently passed New York state budget brought some great news for Finger Lakes Community College in Canandaigua, which will benefit from a $3.3 million grant to open a Viticulture Center in Geneva as the newest element to the college's Viticulture and Wine Technology program. A little history: It wasn't so long ago that the New York grape and wine industry had virtually no formal programs, specific curricula, or adequate facilities to educate and train tomorrow's leaders. So would-be winemakers typically had to go to a California school like University of California at Davis or Fresno.
