UK: Alcoholic content of beer, wine and cider to be reduced

(Telegraph) - The alcoholic strength of beer, wine and cider is to be watered down under a Government initiative to encourage consumers drink more responsibly.A billion units of alcohol are to be shed from a range of popular brands following agreement from the drinks industry to commit to lower strength products. The programme is being spearheaded by 34 leading companies behind well-known wines such as Echo Falls and First Cape. Dutch brewers Heineken will also reduce the alcoholic content of their beers.
