(Pressdemocrat) - Long ago, wine wasn’t an industry as much as it was a last resort in providing sustenance for a family. Often it was simply people making wine because it provided a living ... barely. An old Italian saying says, “Where nothing grows, plant grapes and olives.” Poor soils sustain those two agricultural products better than almost any other. And many of the people who grew grapes and made wine didn’t live in palaces. Far from it.
