US: VA: Warm Weather Could Mean Problems for Winemakers
Jan 31, 2012
(NBC29) - As that mercury rises, so do fears at local vineyards. That's because unseasonably warm weather can trick the vines into thinking it's spring.
It's a great night to sit outside and enjoy this unseasonably warm weather - perhaps with a glass of your favorite wine. But for the makers of that wine, they just want Mother Nature to make up her mind.
Stephen Barnard is the winemaker at Keswick Vineyards. He says this past year has been one of the worst on record for wine making. A wet fall - and now unseasonably warm weather - put vines that are supposed to be dormant at risk.
