Dispelling Wine Myths: American vs European Palates.
Dec 3, 2011
(WSJ) - When it comes to wine, the transatlantic divide is alive and well. Despite the expansion of the wine map and at the lower level the proliferation of mass-produced, identikit wines there is still a perception that the U.S. palate prefers sweeter, higher alcohol, riper flavors. In the other corner we Europeans, who tend to drink wine only with food, prefer more austere, tannic, dry flavors topped up with a hearty dose of acidity which cuts through those delicious creamy sauces we tend to serve with our food. And whenever wine critics meet from both sides of the Atlantic we love to put the perception to the test
