(Wines&Vines) - The hopeful winery owners who attended a seminar about buying and selling wineries conducted by the Seminar Group last week might despair of ever selling their properties. The list of requirements and disclosures—and the myriad possible pitfalls and hang-ups—seemed endless. Napa-based law firm Gaw Van Male, which represents many wineries, shared a two-page document in mouse-sized mini type just outlining all the steps. Yet clearly, wineries are bought and sold. The seminar provided an invaluable guide to those who want to sell or buy a winery or vineyard, as well as to service providers interested in the process.
