US: Idaho’s wine industry thrives in recession

Aug 7, 2011

SOUTHWEST IDAHO — The economic recession hit some industries hard, but the wine trade in Idaho isn’t one of them. “It’s been good because people are not reaching for that $100 California (Cabernet) or that $50 Washington Merlot,” Idaho Grape Growers & Wine Producers Commission Executive Director Moya Shatz said. “They’re reaching for that $10 to $15 Idaho wine. … They’re almost having to buy something that’s more affordable because they don’t have as much disposable income. I know I’m a lot more mindful of what I’m buying.”
