US: Massive Fire Destroys Grape Bins

Fairfield, Calif.—A thick pillar of black smoke towered above the Fairfield plant of Macro Plastics Inc. on July 26, dominating Northern California news broadcasts and forcing nearby residents to shelter in place. No one was seriously injured in the blaze, but acres of massive stacks of highly flammable PVC MacroBins were incinerated, to the alarm of grapegrowers, wineries and other agriculture businesses that rely on the bins for transportation of fruit and small-lot fermentation.
