UK: 'Chateau London' offers urban home-grown wine

Jun 7, 2011

(AFP) – In 2007, urban regeneration specialist Richard Sharp was on holiday in France and became fascinated with the "community spirit" of French villages during the harvest, wondering whether the same could be achieved in Britain. "A lot of people have vines (in London) but don't know what to do with the grapes," said Sharp. He placed an advertisement in a newspaper asking amateur viticulturalists to contribute to a collective, and set out to look for a wine press to make wine.
