US: Jess Jackson dies; owner of Kendall-Jackson winery
Apr 21, 2011
Jess Jackson, 81, a self-made billionaire who made his fortune promoting California chardonnays from his Kendall-Jackson winery, died April 21.
According to a statement from his company, Mr. Jackson died of complications from cancer.
In recent years, Mr. Jackson made headlines for his work in the thoroughbred racing industry as the owner of Stonestreet Stables. In 2007, Mr. Jackson’s chestnut horse Curlin won the Preakness Stakes at the Pimlico Racetrack in Maryland. Curlin was the first North-American based horse to earn more than $10 million in purses and was a two-time winner of American Horse of the Year honors.
