The French have bequeathed much to the world of wine. Here are 5 reasons to raise a glass in their honor.Which pinot noir do winemakers the world over want to, pine to — but, by and large, merely attempt to — emulate? French red Burgundy. Same story with the grape syrah and the northern Rhone — or cabernet sauvignon mixed with merlot in Bordeaux, or — wait a second, is there any great wine grape that doesn't show its best when made into wine in France? OK, malbec ( Argentina's honor).
