Dallas Voters Endorse End to "Dry" Districts
Nov 4, 2010
DALLAS – Dallas voters decided by a wide margin that the "dry" areas of Dallas should instead be "wet," so beer and wine can be sold in retail stores throughout the city, WFAA TV reports. It does not apply to previously dry areas regarding the sale of hard liquor, and it only applies to sales of off-premise consumption. The measure Proposition 1, could take effect before the end of the year. Additionally, voters offered overwhelming support of Proposition 2, which ends the need for restaurant patrons in dry areas of the city to join "private clubs" in order to purchase and consume alcohol. Only 27 percent opposed relaxing the existing law. The measure applies to businesses that have food and beverage licenses, and not to bars.
