EU agrees to wine enrichment derogation
Oct 20, 2010
Northern European wine producers subject to this year's "exceptionally unfavourable" weather conditions will be allowed to use enrichment aids to raise alcoholic volumes in their wines by up to 0.5%, agreed the EU's management committee this week. On Tuesday, the Committee voted in favour of a request by 11 member states to allow producers to increase enrichment limits (alcoholic strength) on wine made with grapes harvested this year - subjected to heavy rain and limited sunshine at the end of the growing season
