How This Portland Company Transformed The Wine Market

Mar 27, 2019

(Forbes) - In Tualatin, a suburb of Portland, about 30 minutes from city, Ryan Harms is building a modern wine company. Here his aging wine sits on an unassuming backlot facing empty fields, instead of on idyllic rolling hills. "It's just as good," he argues though.

While it may seem like an industrial operation, Harms is working with some of Oregon’s most prized growers to source his grapes. A supporter of LIVE, the Pacific Northwest’s certification for sustainable vineyards and wineries, Harms’ business, Union Wine Company is a certified winery. But the sustainability efforts, embedded in running a company efficiency, he says, are less in your face here. Harms, instead is focused on bringing a freshness to the wine scene altogether.
