Glimmer of Hope for Wine Lovers at Supreme Court

Jan 17, 2019

(Wine Searcher) - The opening exchanges of a landmark Supreme Court hearing offered hope and confusion in equal parts.

The Supreme Court might soon let you order wine from anywhere... or it might not.

The Court heard one hour of arguments in Tennessee Wine & Spirits Retailers Association vs. Blair, a case that has the potential to invalidate liquor laws across the country. It might allow people in most of the country to order wine from out-of-state retailers as well as out-of-state wineries.

The case is not technically about interstate wine shipping, but that issue was clearly on the mind of several justices. It seems likely that a Tennessee law restricting liquor licenses to longtime residents of the state will be shot down.
