Lafite, Ausone Bid Up at $6.2 Million Christie's Wine Auction in Hong Kong

Sep 18, 2010

Christie’s International sold HK$48.13 million ($6.2 million) of wine at a two-day auction in Hong Kong as Asian buyers bid up prices for Chateau Lafite- Rothschild and Chateau Ausone. The sale of almost 400 cases, including top Bordeaux such as Lafite-Rothschild, Latour, Mouton-Rothschild, Margaux and Haut-Brion, is part of the cellar of SK Networks Co., part of the SK Group whose output accounts for almost 10 percent of South Korea’s production. Sotheby’s, Christie’s and New York-based wine seller Acker Merrall & Condit expect global wine sales may double to a record $200 million in 2010 from last year, driven by demand for top Bordeaux from Chinese buyers.
