Update: Snell Fire reaches 2,400 acres, evacuation shelter opens in Calistoga

(NVR) - Updated at 7:15 p.m. Sunday — A woodland fire that forced an evacuation in rural northern Napa County grew to 2,400 acres as of 4 p.m. Sunday, according to authorities.

Containment jumped Sunday afternoon from 15 to 20 percent, Cal Fire reported.

The Snell Fire, which was first reported shortly before 2:30 p.m. Saturday on Butts Canyon Road and Snell Valley Road in north Napa County, Cal Fire reported.

The Napa County Office of Emergency Services opened an emergency shelter for fire evacuees Sunday afternoon, in the Butler Pavilion at the Napa County Fairgrounds in Calistoga, 1435 N. Oak St. Cots, blankets and comfort packages are being offered for evacuees. As of 7:15 p.m. Sunday evening, no evacuees had arrived, and staff in Calistoga had been in talks with leadership to find out if the shelter would be closed tonight, according to Karen Collins, Chief Deputy Director of Health and Human Services with NCOES. The shelter is jointly operated with American Red Cross.
