(PD) - The Mendocino Complex fire grew to 380,690 acres overnight, expanding “slightly” in the northern flank of the blaze that’s burning in wilderness lands, Cal Fire said.

The Ranch fire, the larger of the two blazes collectively known as the Mendocino Complex fire, grew by 970 acres overnight and remained at 76 percent containment, Cal Fire said.

Crews on Saturday were continuing to mop up and create containment lines in the northern portion of the fire in the Mendocino National Forest, Cal Fire said. Light winds and smoky conditions were expected Saturday, with clearing in the afternoon that will increase visibility for fire suppression efforts, the agency said.

More than 3,400 crews are assigned to the fires, which killed one firefighter and injured two others. It has destroyed 157 homes and 120 other structures.
