Why aren’t there more natural wineries you can visit?
Aug 16, 2018
(SFChronicle) - I get emails from readers all the time asking for personalized recommendations for where they should go wine tasting when they’re in California Wine Country. Ninety-nine percent of the time, my answer is easy: We have a website for that! It’s called The Press, and its sole function — literally — is helping you figure out where to go wine tasting.
Interestingly, though, in the last week I’ve gotten three separate emails from folks asking for tasting room recommendations for natural wine. “I only want to drink natural wine while I am there,” one out-of-town emailer clarified. This is a tricky question, because there simply aren’t that many wineries in the Bay Area with tasting rooms open to the public that specialize in natural wines. There are basically two: Donkey & Goat and Broc, which conveniently share a parking lot in Berkeley, making them an easy two-fer.
