Uncle Sam Doesn't Care About Your Oscar

Aug 13, 2018

(Wine-Searcher) - Director Steven Soderbergh faces down the regulatory gauntlet to sell his new spirit, Jeanne O'Brien Coffey reports.

For Oscar-winning director Steven Soderbergh, selling his first feature film was much easier than selling his own spirit brand. He famously wrote "Sex, Lies and Videotape" in just eight days, shot it in 30, and concluded a bidding war for the film by selling to the then-fledgling Miramax Studios.

Contrast that with the labor of love that is Singani 63, Soderbergh's brand of the national spirit of Bolivia. Thus far, he has spent more than a decade on his side hustle, battling bureaucracy at every turn.
