UK Wine Trade's Brexit Blues
Aug 2, 2018
(Wine Searcher) - If you currently reside outside of the UK, you may be interested in a quick summation of where we stand with Brexit.
"To be, or not to be: that is the question," seems a good place to start. "Whether 'tis nobler in the mind to suffer The slings and arrows of outrageous fortune, or to take arms against a sea of troubles, And by opposing end them?"
I can't speak for Shakespeare (he does that quite well enough for himself), but I can suggest that the opening soliloquy from Hamlet, act III, scene I, sets the tone nicely. Should we anticipate our departure from the EU with great excitement, or should we be very, very afraid? Remoaner or Brexiteer? WTO trading rules or compromise? Legitimately pursue a second vote on the final Brexit deal, (presuming there is one), or is this an unforgivable betrayal of "the will of the people"?
Indeed, for objective bystanders from all corners of the world, the terminology and content of this great debate may sound both baffling and absurd.
