Frescobaldi Talks Tuscany

Jul 27, 2018

(Wine Searcher) - From buying Ornellaia to discussing climate change, the president of Frescobaldi Toscana opens up.

The name Frescobaldi is synonymous with Tuscan wine. Under the Frescobaldi Toscana umbrella, the family operates seven different wine estates in the region, and also owns Ornellaia, the famed Bolgheri producer, and Luce, known for its full-bodied reds, including a Brunello di Montalcino.

Recently in Chicago, I sat down with Lamberto Frescobaldi, president of the company, to learn the latest news about his family's estates, and to get a better understanding on subjects ranging from the style of today's Tuscan wine to climate change and to new export markets. I first asked him about one of the newest Frescobaldi estates, Tenuta Perano, situated in Chianti Classico.

Perano is a Chianti Classico firm, yet Frescobaldi has been associated for decades with their wines from their Chianti Rufina estate. Have you crossed over to "the dark side"?
