Last Chance to See Único 1962

(Wine Searcher) - If you'd like to try one o the greatest wines ever to emerge from Spain, you'd better be quick.

"Undoubtedly, this must be one of the greatest Spanish wines to have graced this planet." Neal Martin, The Wine Advocate, 2012 (100pts).

Any wine enthusiast who has a passing interest in Spanish wine will know that Vega Sicilia (named after Santa Cecilia, not Sicily) is generally regarded as Spain's greatest wine estate. It is a regular feature of Spanish royal events, and is the only Spanish wine that consistently performs well on the auction market. What makes that all the more impressive is that Vega Sicilia's prominence was achieved while not being part of an established wine region. It was established in 1864, while the Ribera del Duero region, which developed around it, was not given its DO status until 1982, the year that current owners the Alvarez family acquired the estate.
