Napa's Watershed C Vote at a Standstill

Jun 12, 2018

(Wine- Searcher) - Poor voter response, mail-in ballots and bureaucracy stall a decision on a major agricultural provision.

A half century has passed since the legendary "Agricultural Preserve" was implemented in Napa County.

In 1968, Napa locals and lawmakers were forward-thinking enough to limit the number of visitors wineries could invite per day and how many could have their own restaurants.

Flash-forward several decades and Napa residents are pitted against each other in an ugly battle trying to determine how land use should be regulated going forward. Both sides have been equally tenacious in making their point about how this measure will help or harm the valley, but oddly both their perspectives have not resonated much with voters who showed a weak turnout.
