California's Nagging Smoke Taint Concerns
Apr 18, 2018
(wine-Searcher) - Will "Californian wildfire smoke" be making it onto the tasting notes of the 2017 vintage?
The fires that erupted in many counties in Napa and Sonoma in October of last year were much more invasive than those ever previously seen in the state.
"In my decades of experience in the wine business, I've never seen a fire year like the one past," shares Rob McMillan, the Napa-based executive vice president and founder of the Silicon Valley Bank Wine Division. "Nobody has seen a year like 2017 when it comes to fire." As a result, "2017 has become a learning year for everyone in the US wine community."
