Plans for a New Wine Appellation in BC

Mar 25, 2018

(Wines&Vines) - A new sub-appellation is planned for the Okanagan Valley around the community of Okanagan Falls.

“We’ve been going at this for well over a year,” said Jim D’Andrea, co-owner of Noble Ridge Vineyards, which hosted an initial meeting regarding plans to establish a new viticultural area with 12 representatives from local wineries in May 2017.

The meeting garnered no opposition from any of the participants, and a committee of the Okanagan Falls Winery Association submitted an initial proposal for what’s formally known as a new "geographical indication," GI, with the BC Wine Authority (BCWA) at the beginning of December 2017.
