Northwest Rallies Behind Fire-Ravaged Wineries
Oct 22, 2017
(Wines&Vines) - Northwest wineries aren’t just opening their wallets, they’re opening their cellars to counterparts in Northern California hit hard by wildfires.
Last weekend, Jim Bernau of Willamette Valley Wineries Inc. used social media to extend an offer of three weeks of work, room and board for up to 10 cellar workers displaced by wildfires in Northern California.
Response has been steady, with Kunde Family Winery in Kenwood among the wineries showing interest.
“These hourly employees are in a really vulnerable situation, and there’s not a lot of clarity of when they could get back to work,” Christine Clair, winery director at Willamette Valley Vineyards, told Wines & Vines.
