Nordstrom’s latest concept: Small stores with beer and wine — but no inventory
Sep 11, 2017
(DailyNews) - As traditional retailers continue to search for the keys to survival amid rapidly changing consumer tastes, Nordstrom is rolling out a new concept — a store that doesn’t actually have any inventory.
The department store chain is opening a new line of stores called Nordstrom Local.
There will be no browsing or picking up an armful of clothing to try on. Instead, the 3,000-square-foot stores (significantly smaller than traditional Nordstrom retail footprints that average 140,000 square feet) will include about eight dressing rooms and a “styling suite.” Personal stylists will transfer merchandise in for customers, and the Nordstrom Local stores will serve as a place to pick up purchases ordered online, get alterations made and other services.
“As the retail landscape continues to transform at an unprecedented pace, the one thing we know that remains constant is that customers continue to value great service, speed and convenience,” said Shea Jensen, Nordstrom senior vice president of customer experience, who led the Nordstrom Local initiative, in a statement from the company. “We know there are more and more demands on a customer’s time, and we wanted to offer our best services in a convenient location to meet their shopping needs. Finding new ways to engage with customers on their terms is more important to us now than ever.”
