Move over Two Buck Chuck, Trader Joe's goes big on $4 canned wine 4-pack
May 3, 2017
(NJ) - Trader Joe's - well known for its inexpensive line of wine nicknamed "Two Buck Chuck" - has announced another foray into the low-priced booze offerings with a 4-pack of canned sparkling wine for $3.99.
For wine aficionados, the thought of wine in a can may be horrifying. But Trader Joe's said in the announcement that the explosion in the canned wine market prompted the new product, Simpler Wines Italian Sparkling Wine.
The new brand, available in white and rose, comes about 15 years after the company introduced its famous Charles Shaw wine, a well-known economical brand with a $1.99 price tag that eventually gave it the nickname, "Two Buck Chuck." (The price later was increased.)
In a statement announcing the new product, Trader Joe's acknowledged that canned wine "doesn't always stand up to its bottled counterpart."
